The Hair Transplant Process

Home » Journey

Step 1: Consultation

The consultation is one of the most important parts of the hair transplant process. A hair transplant consultation allows us to understand what is causing your hair loss, the severity of the balding and your desired look. That way, we will be able to decide what will be the best course of treatment for you. Be wary of clinics that don’t offer consultations as part of the hair transplant process – they are the only way to be certain if surgery is right for you.

After a thorough examination, a discussion about your medical history and a chat about your expectations, we can determine the right hair transplant journey for you. We will also be able to give you a cost estimate and advise you on finance options.

Step 2: Procedure

You will undergo your surgery in our state-of-the-art Manchester clinic with our world-leading hair transplant surgeon, Dr. Asim Shahmalak. All of our hair transplant surgeries are conducted under local anaesthetic, although you will be awake during the procedure, it will be minimally painful – many of our patients find they are so relaxed that they end up falling asleep during their FUE and FUT hair transplant surgeries!

Hair transplants are typically a day-case procedure, so you will be able to go home shortly after your surgery. The procedure usually takes part in three stages:

  • Stage 1: Donor Graft Extraction – The surgeon uses a specialised tool to extract donor grafts from the patient’s donor area. This is usually from the scalp or back of the head.
  • Stage 2: Graft Preservation – Crown Clinic takes active measures to preserve your donor grafts for implantation. Your grafts will be cleaned and sorted according to the number of hairs it contains. Then it will be submerged in a special solution to maximise survivability.
  • Stage 3: Implantation – The grafts are expertly blended into the thinning or balding areas, to seamlessly match the natural growing characteristics of your original hair.

Step 3: Aftercare

You’ll need to follow our aftercare procedure to ensure that your hair transplant is a success. After your hair transplant is complete, we’ll give you all of the information and advice you need – we offer a helpful step-by-step guide that outlines what to expect each day after your surgery and how to take care of your newly-transplanted hair.

Crown Clinic’s team are happy to answer any questions you may have after your transplant, advise on how to look after your new follicles and help you through your hair transplant journey day by day.
