Has Declan Donnelly Had A Hair Transplant?
Millions of viewers are enjoying the new series of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! on ITV.
It’s great to see hosts Ant and Dec working so brilliantly together again.
Both boys look in great shape and Dec has a very full head of hair – leading to speculation that he has had a hair transplant.
It is impossible to say for definite whether Dec has had a hair transplant.
Most celebrities tend to go go for a follicular unit extraction procedure (FUE) such as Wayne Rooney and Crown Clinic celebrity clients Calum Best, Martin Roberts, Didi Hamann and Chris Steed.
Some stars such as Crown Clinic client, TV doctor Christian Jessen, prefer the traditional FUT method (follicular unit transplantation).
What is the difference between FUE and FUT?
With FUE, the grafts and removed individually from the back and sides of the scalp to obtain the donor hair which is then positioned in the balding areas of the scalp.
The advantage of FUE is that scarring is minimal – there are some red pin pricks where the grafts are removed but these go away after a few days. Because it is so labour intensive, it is more expensive than FUT.
Around 80% of patients at Crown Clinic opt for FUE.
With FUT, a strip of skin is cut from the scalp to obtain the donor grafts – it means that all the grafts can be obtained at the same time. This method is cheaper than FUE.
The disadvantage is that it does leave a lined scar on the scalp where the strip has been removed. This doesn’t tend to be a problem if you wear your hair relatively long like TV doc Christian, but FUT would not be suitable if you like your head shaved or your hair short at the back and the sides.
A fifth of patients at Crown Clinic (20%) still opt for the traditional FUT method of hair transplant.
If Dec has not had a hair transplant, why else would his hair be looking better?
Many celebrities with thinning hair use hair thickener to give the impression that they have more natural hair than they really have.
Wayne Rooney is a good example. He sometimes uses thickener before big games so his hair looks better when he is on the pitch – and he is being watched by millions on TV.
