There are many steps to go through before you get your FUE Hair Transplant and once it’s all done and dusted, there are just a few more things you’ll need to do to take care of your scalp and new head of hair.
Hair transplant aftercare is extremely important in contributing to the overall success of your FUE hair transplant, You may experience some minor shedding after the procedure, but that’s completely normal and nothing to worry about.
There are a few things, however, that you can do to ensure the quickest and most effective recovery from your hair transplant.
Crown Clinic take a look at some of the key products to avoid using and good routines to get into to make sure your transplant is successful and gives you the results you’ve always wanted.
Avoid harsh chemicals after an FUE hair transplant
It’s usually advised to give your hair and scalp rest for a week or two after your transplant, but when the time does come for you to wash it, there are a few things to bear in mind.
A lot of regular high street shampoos and conditioners contain a number of chemicals that could potentially be harsh on your hair or sensitive scalp. The best shampoo to start with after a hair transplant is baby shampoo or herbal shampoo ie. Aloe Vera.
Another option is to use a product with all-natural ingredients, for example, something that’s vegan friendly. These will generally have less chemical ingredients and more natural ingredients; this will help to soothe and protect the donor area in particular.
When washing your hair, make sure to be gentle with your scalp during lathering and afterwards when drying with a towel.
Be careful whilst brushing after a hair transplant
After your FUE Hair Transplant, your donor area and scalp may be a little tender and any harsh brushing could aggravate the area further. A large-toothed comb can help to neaten up your hair without pulling too much on the hair or aggravating any scabbing that may have occurred.
A guide of around 2 weeks is usually given in order to ensure the donor area has healed and any sensitivity has subsided.
Can I use hair gels, hair sprays and other styling products after an FUE hair transplant procedure?
It is generally advised to stay away from styling products, as they can contain a number of harmful chemicals. You may also find that some products contain alcohol which could irritate the already sensitive scalp.
When thinking about which products are best after your FUE Hair Transplant, it’s best to pay close attention to the ingredients listed on the packaging. Stay away from anything that may have a long list of ingredients or that contains alcohol, as this may be an irritant.
As a general rule of thumb, we would advise waiting around 4 weeks before considering using any ‘normal’ shampoo or styling products. This will allow for any scabbing or sensitivity to ease and reduce the risk of irritating the donor area.
