Can You Grow Your Eyebrows Thicker?

Thick, natural eyebrows may be the fashion nowadays, but rewind a decade or so and pencil-thin eyebrows were all the rage, leaving many people with sparse, patchy brows.

Eyebrows can have a transformative effect on the face, so if you’re looking for ways to make your eyebrows appear thicker, thankfully there are several approaches that you can take.

Why do eyebrows sometimes grow back differently after being plucked?

If you have previously over-plucked your eyebrows, you may have noticed that your eyebrows grow back very slowly, or sometimes not at all. Plucking and waxing the eyebrows repeatedly can damage the hair follicles, potentially leading to a condition called traction alopecia, a type of semi-permanent hair loss caused by repeated damage in the same area.

How can I achieve thicker eyebrows?

First thing is first – put down the tweezers. Although you may worry about them looking unkempt, avoiding plucking, waxing or threading will give your eyebrow hairs the opportunity to grow back in. Eyebrows tend to grow in a three or four month cycle, so wait at least 12 weeks before you groom them again.

The beauty market is flooded with eyebrow serums promising to make eyebrows grow thicker and fuller, containing vitamins like biotin and vitamin E, as well as essential oils such as castor and argan oil. Although there is little evidence to suggest that these topical treatments will have any effect on eyebrow growth, they can improve the overall look of the eyebrows by conditioning the hairs to enhance the natural brows.

Although there are some prescription serums on offer that can aid brow growth, they do usually come with side effects such as discolouring the skin around the brow – plus, once you stop using the serum, the hair follicles enter a resting phase and the newly-grown hairs will fall out.

Makeup products such as pomades, gels and pencils are widely used to create the illusion of thicker eyebrows, although these are only a temporary solution and will need to be used daily. Microblading, where small ‘hairs’ are tattooed onto the brow area is a slightly longer-term fix, but they will regularly need topping up every few years as the colour starts to fade.

Eyebrow transplants are the only permanent way to create full brows that will look completely natural, using hair from a donor area on the scalp. Whether you have naturally sparse brows, have previously over-plucked or have little to no eyebrow hair for medical reasons, Crown Clinic can help you grow the eyebrows you have always dreamed of.
