Along with FUT, FUE hair transplant is the most recognised hair restoration procedure globally and one that Crown Clinic is renowned for.
FUE stands for Follicular Unit Extraction. If you’re unfamiliar with this procedure, singular follicular units are removed from the back or side of the scalp and transferred to the balding areas. One of the reasons why this hair restoration procedure is popular is that no strip is taken from the back of the scalp, which means scarring is minimal. However, please note that there is no noticeable scarring with FUT hair transplants either. Skilled and experienced surgeons will always aim to keep scarring neat and minimalistic.
FUE Hair Transplant Procedure
FUE hair transplants are more labour intensive, and again, we strongly advise having this procedure done in the UK by a reputable and experienced hair loss clinic. While this method is more technical, it’s still the most favourable due to recovery time, scarring and amongst men who prefer a shorter hairstyle.
As this is a day surgery procedure, you’ll be able to return home shortly after, often within 30 minutes. But please make sure there is someone to collect you from the clinic, as we strongly advise against driving home yourself.
You don’t have to worry about pain, discomfort or feeling anything, as a local anaesthetic will be given to numb the donor and recipient areas. You honestly won’t feel a thing, and if you did, people wouldn’t recommend it. If you do have any concerns or worries, let us know during your consultation appointment, and we’ll do everything we can on the day to make you feel at ease. The local anaesthetic will last throughout the procedure, but if you do feel any discomfort, please let the surgeon know.
Once the area is numb and you feel comfortable, individual follicular units are then extracted using a small round punch. The recipient area is then prepared for the follicular units to be transplanted. The grafts of hair are blended to match your natural hair growth pattern, so you don’t have to worry about your new hair looking out of place or obvious.
An FUE hair transplant procedure takes between four to eight hours.
Once the procedure is complete, you can go home to recover and look forward to your new hair growing and regaining any lost confidence. As your hair follicles will grow back naturally, no one will be able to tell the difference or question whether you’ve had a transplant procedure done. The results are fantastic; the scarring is minimal, and recovery time is short.
FUE Hair Transplant Results
The big question: what are the results following an FUE hair transplant?
As mentioned, you can leave the clinic around 30 minutes following the procedure, which means you can start your recovery in the comfort of your home. Please note, that recovery time is generally between 7 to 10, days and there may be some slight discomfort or swelling during this time. Our physicians will provide you with a full care pack to help with your recovery. Of course, if you have any questions during this time, please call Crown Clinic, and we’ll be more than happy to help.
The results following an FUE hair transplant, or any procedure, including FUT, aren’t immediate. Hair needs time to regrow to become established. Just like going to the hairdressers for a cut, your hair won’t grow back immediately after, it takes time.
With FUE hair transplants, it usually takes around three to four months for the new hair to grow, and between six to twelve months before you can notice a difference. While this may seem like a lengthy amount of time, it isn’t. Natural hair will grow at its own pace, and eight months from the rest of your life is nothing in the grand scheme of things. The results are long-lasting, and once your hair has fully regrown to your desired length, you can cut and style it as normal.
FUE hair transplant is permanent and not conditioned to fall out. Once the follicles are transplanted into the recipient areas, they’ll attach to the surrounding cells and be nourished by regular blood flow. Please don’t be alarmed if some of the hair drops out within a few days, as this is common. Hair follicles are fixed and remain on your scalp, and your hair will regrow adequately within a few months.
If your hair loss has dampened your confidence, then please rest assured that it will be regained, and it can begin the moment you leave our clinic. So, it’s important to think about the long-term impact rather than the short-term. Like with any surgical procedure.
