You may have seen Crown Clinic making headlines all over the world last week with our survey showing how men are growing up later.
We all know the phrase, ‘Life begins at 40.’
We set out to find out if it was still true by asking 1,000 men in a survey.
The phrase was coined to describe the moment in your life when you finally feel settled: you are financially secure and the children are reasonably self-sufficient.
As expected – with house prices growing by as much as £50,000 a month in London alone and two-thirds of children in the UK born to men over 30 – life doesn’t begin at 40 any more: it begins at 54.
That is the new age when we finally feel settled.

The poll also looked at the body insecurities that men face as they grapple with the ageing process.
Second most popular of these was thinning hair.
It’s no secret that the most popular age for men to seek a hair transplant is in their 50s.
Several of the famous celebrities who are 54 are struggling wtih thinning hair – most notably Kevin Spacey (who wears a hairpiece to cover his baldness) and Hugh Laurie.
